iReminder Announces New Weapon to Increase Medication Persistence
Targets Growing Cost of Non-Compliance
WESTFIELD, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 14, 2006--
The healthcare industry has a new, cost-effective weapon
in the fight to increase medication compliance. Compliance
for Life a web- and phone-based medication
reminder system, has been launched by iReminder, LLC (iReminder.com),
a healthcare technology company based in Westfield,
NJ. With 50% of chronic disease patients failing to
comply with their treatment regimens and non-compliance
estimated to cost $300 billion a year, Compliance
for Life offers an innovative framework
for medication adherence and persistence.
Compliance for Life is
licensed to disease management firms, pharmacy benefit
managers (PBMs), and managed care organizations to
integrate into their existing offerings, or as a stand-alone
compliance program. It extends the reach of case managers
by freeing them from routine, repetitive calls, giving
them more time to focus on difficult compliance cases. Compliance for Life also
is licensed to pharmacies, associations, and non-profits
which, in turn, offer it as a direct-to-consumer service.
Compliance for Life reminders
can be set either by phone (with speech recognition
software), or on the Internet and delivered in multiple
ways: by phone, email and text message. A customizable
delivery sequence enables reminders to "find" patients,
even when their schedules vary because the system
routes reminders through a series of delivery attempts
(e.g., call home twice, cell phone three times, and
then send an email), until a successful contact is
made.
With Compliance for Life,
case managers, caregivers and family members can set
up medication reminders for patients, as long as they
obtain permission from the patients in advance. Those
who set up reminders can request notification of whether
or not the reminder was received by the patient, so
that they can follow up as needed.
"We developed Compliance for Life to address the most common reasons for non-compliance:
people forget, get busy, don't want to disrupt their
routines, or are away from home," said Amy J. Yoffie,
CEO of iReminder. "People also stop taking their medications
when they feel better. Reminders that can be set up
once and delivered regularly are particularly effective
for people who suffer from asymptomatic illnesses,
chronic diseases and complex medication regimens,
helping them to maintain consistent levels of medication
in their bodies."
Licensees can elect to include modules that let their
customers review regimen instructions, hear reasons
for staying on medication, improve symptom awareness,
and obtain self-management strategies. Since users
decide when they want to listen to this information,
these educational programs have greater impact than
web-based seminars, healthcare sites, and other methods
of getting someone's attention.
iReminder offers an application service provider
(ASP) model so that customers can use Compliance
for Life's patent-pending technology
without burdening their IT department. Alternatively,
licensees can install the Compliance for
Life technology on their own IT platform.
Both models allow licensees to private label the system.
